Or-gee-at? Or-jzhat? Or what.
Aug. 7th, 2017 03:18 pmThis week's Resolution Recipe: the Trinidad Sour.
1.5 oz Angostura bitters (that's not a typo)
1 oz orgeat
0.75 oz lemon juice
0.5 oz rye whiskey
Fill a cocktail shaker with the ice, then add the rest. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds, then strain into a cocktail coupe.
What worked: This was fabulous. Deliciously bitter, yet rich and herbal. The orgeat smoothed out the huge bitter component. There's another variation with an egg white, which would add lovely froth.
What didn't: My cocktail shaker committed suicide shortly after I made this. I had just finished shaking for 30 seconds, and the side went crack! I guess it decided that if its future was this bitter, it couldn't continue.
Will I make it again? It's going into the cocktail recipe book. I might have to buy a bigger bottle of bitters.
