Got up early for a day off, drove to Marin, hiked in the Muir Woods and Mt. Tam for a couple of hours. I got my butt in gear early enough that I arrived around opening - that meant that I had the upper trails to myself, which is how I like it. The rain of the last couple days meant that the sky and air were clear, even if the trails were mucky. There were even wild turkeys strolling through the parking lot as I drove in!

I was vaguely amused by the warning sign about mountain lions: "They appear to be interested in small children." Gee, you think? Could it be because they're young, tender, and can't run very fast?

1) I need to do this more often, for my mental health as much as for my physical.
2) If I do that, I should get a walking stick. Is diamond willow too soft?
3) Duh, bring the camera. There were some "ooh ah" moments where the sun was breaking through the redwoods as it burned off the mist that I would have loved to capture.

Then to the Pelican for a quick pint on the way back.

You forgot: Delicious sautéed with garlic and scallions.
