The wife and I were just now talking in the study - which Galen is not allowed into, because of all the sewing fu and computer fu.
And we watched him through the glass, meerkatting up.
Towards the door lever.
He grabbed it with both paws, pulled down, and leaned into the door.
Which, of course, opened.
Sometimes having a smart (and tall) kitty is not good news!

A hook&eye at your eyelevel might do the trick for you... it fixed the dyeshop. (I wish I'd taken a picture of the gingerwhitetealgreen kitty who slept in the dye fu. O well - fortunately, the dyes were nontoxic!)
