October Crown

We sorta-day-tripped. It was exhausting, but I'm glad we did.
We got up early Saturday and drove the 2.5 hours to site. Because Sacratomato freeways are permanently under construction, we apparently missed our exit and drove further north than needed; it meant we got to site slightly later than planned, but we weren't involved with morning court so no harm done. The site was down long dirt roads to a cattle ranch. Weather was hot (90 F) but the site had nice green grass. Granted there were a lot of cow pies, but they were all dried. It was also quite humid, but fortunately I dressed lightly in a tunic and my linen pants from Florence. I never felt particularly uncomfortable, so that was good.
I tried wearing my Anglo-Saxon leg wraps to go with the shoes and tunic. This time they were a lot more successful - I looked up some tutorials. They did slide down over the course of the day. I suspect that's partly the linen not holding the wool and mostly my lack of skill wrapping them. But no complaints.
We had asked our friends Greg & Morgan if we could crash with them, and they graciously agreed. I brought some bresaola (her favorite) as a thank you. I didn't wander around site offering charcuterie, but I did offer some to a few people (including people I didn't know).
Oh yeah, there was a tourney. Fabian and Eliska won. The last time they reigned, the wife carved a woodblock and printed Award of Arms scrolls, which was spectacular and they mentioned each time they gave them that these were hand-printed pieces of art rather than a simple pre-print promissory. We have joked with them in the past that if they were to reign again, she could re-use the block and simply carve off the date. When Fabian won finals, I leaned over and said "I guess we know your art project for Twelfth Night."
Lots of good chattage and catching up with people. We went to the Oktoberfest fundraiser (cancer research) which was fine, not spectacular but a good cause and we had more good chattage with people we didn't know. Then Flidais' memorial. I faded earlier than I would have liked so we were there maybe an hour, but it was still 10:30 when we left site.
We hadn't decided whether we would return to site for the morning Pelican meeting. When I woke up it was 9:45 AM... so that was a no on going back. Sleeping in that late is almost unheard of for me, but beyond needing it we had blackout curtains and were facing west. We went to a local diner and then drove home. I am still kind of exhausted so I chose to work from home today.
