Gruel and Unusual
May. 13th, 2026 07:46 amThis week's Resolution Recipe: 90-second Microwave Oatmeal.
1 cup milk, water, or combination (I used goat milk)
1/2 cup rolled oats
flavorings as desired (I used cinnamon, a spoonful of honey, some frozen blueberries, and a small handful of walnuts)
Mix liquid and oats, along with flavorings. (I left the walnuts out to keep their crunch.) Nuke for 90 seconds, pausing to stir if the container looks like it will overflow. This produces very creamy oatmeal.
What worked: It was okay. I prefer steel-cut oatmeal from the CultPot.
What didn't: Our work microwave may be on the underpowered side; nevertheless, it took nearly 2 1/2 minutes to soak up. Gloppier than I like.
Will I make it again? I mean, it's easy and doesn't require making ahead (a limit of the CultPot recipe). So probably, though I might cut the portion size down to 2/3 and 1/3 cups.
