O, for a Muse of Fire!
Jan. 14th, 2005 07:21 amThis morning, I turned off the alarm and promptly went back to sleep for half an hour.
I was at the lasts Mists Investiture (which we did not attend, due to life) and it was after Leohtulf and Quentyn had stepped up. Valgard Stonecleaver sang a praise song of his own composing. The chorus ended in "Leohtulf, Leohtulf" and here is the last line of each of the two verses that stuck with me when I struggled awake:
"And he works for the company that also does Rolf." (I think this referred to Rolf the Relentless.)
"But Leohtulf has friends that Rolf has none of."
Well, they sort of rhyme.
Even in the dream, I was the only one who applauded.
The scary thing? This may well be the best song that my unconscious mind has ever generated.
Apparently my muse is Euterpe's illegitimate, semi-literate, banjo-pickin' redneck cousin.
Sensible, really - my musical skills are quite a good match for her. I don't usually sing unless I have the tune absolutely memorized, or it's a very large bucket.
Edited to add: No, I'm not making fun of Leohtulf here. If anything, it's ragging on my own musical inability. Sheesh - lighten up, people!
What I'm reading: David Weber, March Upcountry

He's a hero angels chorus,
And as for us he don't bore us.
You're lucky -- your weirded-out SCA dreams are musicals! Oooh - just flashed on Valgard singing "I Wanna Singa" -- need to get coffee NOW.
