I've seen things similar to this in the SCA.

Thinking a bit more about childhood reading: my dad read The Hobbit to me as a bedtime story. I know it had an impact - f'rinstance, I always got marked down on spelling tests because I'd write "grey".

Last night, I started reading The Hobbit to the wife as a bedtime story. This time 'round, though, we've both read it many times before - but it's still right before my bedtime.

My dad read Mark Twain (Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn), Roald Dahl (James & the Giant Peach, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory), Jack London (Call of the Wild (http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/call/), White Fang) and Farley Mowat (Never Cry Wolf, The Dog Who Wouldn't Be, Owls in the Family)...

I'm not sure, really, what that says about me.
