Frank Gorshin, impressionist but better known as the Riddler from the sixties sitcom version of "Batman," died at age 72.

The three major male villains from that show are now gone.

I always liked Gorshin's Riddler the best of the villains. He was creepy and genuinely insane. The Joker acted like a spoiled child, and I could never take the Penguin seriously when he did things like run for Gotham City mayor...

I think that's what scared me the most about him -- you could tell he was insane. He creeped me out as a kid, and he creeped me out as an adult.

Bummer.

Yes, Gorshin was the only villain on that show who felt like a villain. The others were more cartoon than anything else.

I'm sorry to hear that. The Batman TV show started my lifelong love of Batman.

Yeah, he was the only one of the villians from the 60s series who was crazy enough to do something genuinely evil, like kill somebody.

I don't know, though, I think Gorshin was scarier in "Where the Boys Are"...
