2 cups brown mushrooms, sliced
1 bunch chard and some other random greens, washed and chopped
1/2 pound broccoli di cicco, chopped
6 eggs
3 cups milk
1 cup chopped onion
4 cloves garlic, or more
1 loaf bread, chopped
2 cups grated cheese
Oil a 9x13" Pyrex dish. Place bread in and then half the cheese. Saute the onion, garlic, and mushroom in oil. When the onion is translucent, add broccoli and chard and cook until chard is wilted but still bright green. Layer on top of bread. Whisk milk and eggs together and pour over top. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Cook at 350 degrees for 40 minutes, sprinkle with remainder of cheese, cook for another 20. Serve warm.
What worked: It was reasonably tasty. Reasonably good way to use up broccoli and an excess of greens from our CSA box.
What didn't: The original called for 2 cups milk and 4 eggs; it needed more, so I added another egg and cup of milk, but this was a bit splorty. I think it needed the extra egg to custard-ize it a bit more.
Will I make it again? Yeah, probably. It's a decent dish for a large number of people - the wife and I will be eating this for the next several breakfasts.
