Jun. 1st, 2005 08:38 amFinally! Two wonderful British TV shows are coming out on DVD:
Chef! and Danger Mouse.
Lenny Henry, besides being married to Dawn French and a good buddy of Neil Gaiman's, is frickin' hilarious.

"Somebody bring me a knife, very long and razor sharp. I need to castrate the person who made this sauce and I don't want to cause any unecessary suffering. I'm not a vindictive man, I'm not out to cause pain, but with this man's DNA in the gene pool, humanity is doomed."

Date: 2005-06-01 05:31 pm (UTC)In looking for DVD information, I noticed that the Tomorrow People is also now out on DVD. Thank you, early Nickelodeon, for importing this stuff.
Speaking of Nickelodeon, I wonder if they'll ever put out DVDs of You Can't Do That On Television. (Then again, I suspect it may not hold up that well over the years...)

Date: 2005-06-01 05:39 pm (UTC)Ever see the 1999 Comic Relief Special, "Dr. Who and the Curse of Fatal Death"? Rowan Atkinson as the Doctor, Johnathan Pryce as the Master, Julia Swalha (Saffie from Ab Fab) as the Doctor's Companion (I'm blanking on her character's name). The DVD included clips of other Dr. Who parodies, including a pretty funny Lenny Henry sketch. (Also worth noting is a killer French and Saunders bit).

Date: 2005-06-01 09:57 pm (UTC)Hm...I don't seem to be able to find a Region 1 DVD. This is the version I have, and it's got all the extras.
Now if only BBC America would show the new BBC Dr. Who series...I keep reading reviews of the episodes but of course have no way to actually *see* them.

Date: 2005-06-01 09:52 pm (UTC)I'll bring it to the 'stag picnic (not sure what events we'll get to in June, but if we do go I'll bring it then as well. Isn't there a June crown coming up?)
It's been sitting on top of the TV, just staring at me. "Return me to Madbaker", it pleads, and I promise it that I'll bring it to the next event and that it'll soon be home.
When I return from said event, it's been up waiting all weekend for me, spinning frantically in its case, metaphoric rolling pin in hand. "You bastard", it shrieks, "you've been watching Vertigo behind my back, haven't you?"
The accusatory tone immediately drops to a whispered longing. "Did you see him there? Did he ask about me? How is he? Is he eating well?"
Finally, months of pent-up frustration begin to break down its reserves. "View me like you did the very first time! View me again, you stallion!" As I gently slide open its case and ease its body gently onto the soft DVD tray, the phone rings. I again leave it unsatisfied, wanting, raging at my twisted sense of priorities and my cruel, cruel tortures that neither end in viewing consummation nor reunion with its true, sweet owner.
I'm a bad boy.
