Last night I attended a work-society social event at Gordon Biersch in Palo Alto. It was okay - I didn't feel like networking and schmoozing, so I didn't. Nor did I drink; I've been fighting a case of the cruds. The two primary reasons for going didn't happen for me.
Given that, the noteworthy happening was the brewmaster giving us a quickie tour. They only brew enough for this location - it's just a narrow room behind the bar. Anyway, given my friends and interests, I knew just a bit more about brewing than the rest of the financial geeks in my group. My questions were pointed enough that I was asked several times if I brew beer. I answered (correctly, but misleadingly) that my dad homebrewed back in the '70s.
Could have been worse; it could have been a bakery tour, and then my secret identity as a person with a life outside the financial industry would
really have been revealed.
