The cocktail party at [livejournal.com profile] g0atface and M's was lovely, as expected. I wasn't really in a drinking mood but the schmoozing was good. Slightly surreal experience as we were leaving - a woman leaned over and said something about enjoying reading my blog. [livejournal.com profile] dr_koolaimzz perhaps? Anyway...

Amusing in retrospect, but only then: the wife and I went out for sushi to a restaurant we used to patronize when we lived in Mountain View. [livejournal.com profile] roswtr, [livejournal.com profile] blkeagl, [livejournal.com profile] strmonkey - we went there one New Year's Eve. It's reasonably priced and the pieces of fish are large and tasty. We thought about having the fried banana dessert special listed on the wall, but instead went next door to the ice cream shop.

Big mistake. Who knew turgid drama was lurking in the ice cream shop?

I ordered my usual: jamocha almond fudge on a sugar cone. First lick, the scoop falls off. I catch it in my left hand. Ice cream saved but hand a bit gooey as I mash it back onto the cone. Then as I'm compressing it onto the cone with my tongue, the cone disintegrates. I catch the ice cream again (more or less) but a bit gets onto my Oxford shirt cuff. Failing to get the attention of either of the ladies behind the counter for a regular cup, I succeed in getting a very small water cup into which I jam the ice cream and cone remainder. I also get another cup of water so I can start dabbing at my cuff.

At which point, I drop the cup of water all over my pant leg.

I stood up and leave, because apparently I'm not supposed to linger in this shop. We finish our ice cream outside in the rain and cold.
