Some years ago, the wife and I went to Indian Springs spa in Calistoga for our anniversary. We had a fabulous, relaxing, time - we decided we'd definitely go again. But job loss, school, and various new jobs conspired to make that not happen until earlier this week.
This wasn't as relaxing. Simply because I
had to watch the Giants - and one of the reasons I love my wife is that she was fine with us following the Series. So we didn't unplug and spend as much time lolling around in the 100-degree pool as we might otherwise.
Still, it was good. We rented one of the cottages (which meant that while it cost a bit more, it was closer and we had a kitchen so we made most of our own meals) and that also helped it feel more like we were convalescing at the sanitarium. The mud bath and massage we each had were nice.
We may try to go back every other year or so. If we stay one night, we can get there early and leave late for two full days of relaxation. Also, the owners are renovating the caretaker's house on the hill above the hot springs for rental. We may try to have a big (relaxed) party there for the wife's next Significant Birthday.
