I believe that these guys' philosophy that your name determines your nature is absolutely true... the way that astrology, numerology, and pretty much any other -ology are.

That being said, it's amusing to try your name to see what comes up.

"Your first name of *** has given you a very practical, hard-working, systematic nature. Your interests are focused on technical, mechanical, and scientific things, to the exclusion of interests of an artistic, musical, or social nature. You have a rather skeptical outlook on life and rather materialistic standards. In reaching your goals, you are very independent and resourceful, patient and determined. You can be so very positive and definite in your own ideas and opinions that others sense a lack of tact and friendliness in your manner of expression. You are inclined to be rather demanding and self-centred in your personal wants, and your own desires can be so overriding that you fail to recognize or appreciate the feelings, opinions, or desires of others. As a consequence, difficulties in relations within the family or with close associates can arise."

Not bad. Amusingly enough, it fits me better than what is produced by my SCA name. A name that I chose myself, that I answer to equally as easily, and one that several people have told me fits better...

Archaeology, sociology, biology, psychology, anthropology, radiology, neurology... ;-)

According to their website, my main health risks
involve things like my kidneys & bladder. Hmmm...where did I go wrong?

Psychology? Freud elevated quackery to a whole new level. (http://www.straightdope.com/columns/030912.html)
Phrenology? Anyone who believes in that needs to have his head examined.
Neurology? We're learning more about the nervous system, yes, but I hardly think we understand it.
Sociology? Mostly a bunch of hunches with wishy-washy "science" to justify the position desired.

Maybe I'm feeling peevish this AM, but I'm going to stand by my comment.

Yean, I figured you'd grab those two.....psychology has really moved beyond Freud who, while brilliant, had...issues....and there actually is a lot of science involaround behaviorism, for example.

But - the reason that they are "-ologies" is because, like biology, we study and learn more all of the time. And I never cited phrenology, so Ha!

I absolutely concede that many -ologies are total hogwash, but not *all* cats are grey.....

Off to school now, for my, you know, Group Psychology class :)

I cited phrenology because I think the joke is funny.
And all cats are grey in the dark.

And all -ologies are equally bogus when you're in the dark, too! :D :D :D
