Re-affirming my bona fides
Sep. 16th, 2003 09:48 amI'm not a stereotypical guy. You know, a Cro-Magnon (or as Eddie Izzard pronounced it, "Cro-Manyon"). I'm not insecure about this – just vaguely amused.
I drink beer, but microbrews rather than Bud.
I bake and cook. (Yes, I'm aware that many professional chefs are male. I'm working with a stereotype here.)
I don't lift weights.
The idea of a "Guys Night Out" generally bores me.
I can't stand golf, Nascar, pro wrestling, basketball, or football.
Baseball, though... that’s where I'm as testosterone-laden as the next fan.
Go Giants!

Cooking & Baking are good things. I do them, too -- and not always in the privacy of my own home.
I don't lift weights, either, but I've had a doctor tell me I should. That, and I should schedule a prostate exam. Given a choice, I may start visiting the gym.
I'm not really sure what a 'Guys Night Out' is. Is this the one where everyone drinks this "Bud" and shoots pool? Or is it the thing where everyone goes out for lap dances at the Pink Poodle?
I inherited a set of clubs -- but that's it insofar as golf goes, I can't tell the difference between stock-car racing and other sorts of car racing, and my only contact with pro basketball was tutoring B-Ball players in college (NCAA Division II team). I was forced to learn to appreciate football (and hockey) as a child in the outskirts of the Buffalo area. Once watching snow falling starts to get boring, then the Bills (and Sabres) look kinda interesting.
In the past three years, however, Julia has converted me to a True Believer in Baseball. I don't, however, think it has anything to do with being testosterone-laden. It's a true game of skill, gamesmanship, and teamwork.
'Nuff Said.
