I was feeling too blah to cook last night, so we ordered cheapish Chinese delivery. It was all right -- nothing special, about par for delivery food.

But there were no fortune cookies.
Think about that for a minute.
There were no fortune cookies!

They were invented in San Francisco in 1914, fer cryin' out loud. What kind of Chinese restaurant in the U.S. doesn't serve fortune cookies?

Oh, the horror. How can I ever trust Chinese delivery food again?
Edited to add: I don't actually like fortune cookies. But that's not the point, is it?

Perhaps they figured since an SF food merchant was responsible for inventing these nasty little nuggets, it's up to an SF food merchant to try to abolish the wee beasties. Good on them!! Support the revolution!
