The wife's aunt and uncle had a party for their 50th (!) wedding anniversary. Since he's an active Mason, they held it in the Mountain View Masonic Hall. I've always wondered what it was like inside - it's next to the library, so over the last thirty-odd years I've spent a lot of time wandering past.

Anyway, I'm glad we did the family obligation thing. The oddest part was running into an SCA couple - Leo the Shrieker and his wife - I knew he was a Mason, but still.

So, what IS it like inside? I used to live in Mountain View and, like you, wandered past it many a time. It looks like it could be fairly nice inside, but then, my only frame of reference is the Scottish Rite temple up in Oakland, which is *amazing*.

We weren't in the inner sanctum - obviously - but the main hall on the floor was nothing special, just a big open room with a small stage. Nice high ceilings though.

My Aunt and Uncle are doing a cruise next year (the same one we did last year) for their 50th Anniversary, also celebrating his 75th birthday the same year. They invited the family, although of course we would need to pay for the cruise. I'm sort of ambivilant -- I've done that cruise, and I'm not that close to my family, but it's sort of tempting anyway ...

It's not one of the spectacular ones. It's the Shriner temples that are really fun to go into. The Masonic halls are often just block buildings that they put a little extra work on.
