One of the fun things about the SF in SF readings with [personal profile] klwilliams is going out for dinner beforehand. The readings themselves are only a couple miles away, so she drives up and parks at our place, and then we have dinner somewhere in the Mission. Lots of places to try; this time, we went to Pete's Barbecue. As the reviews note, it's really more of a rotisserie. But it's a corner joint doing a fair amount of takeout business to locals - always a good sign. We both had the ribs, which were decent. Not spectacular; the barbecue sauce on the side didn't have a lot of flavor that I could taste. But decent, and it was worth going to.

The readings were fun, even if the crowd was quite small this time. Pat Murphy and Terry Bisson both read good short stories. [personal profile] klwilliams persuaded me to go to the local watering hole with the group afterwards, so I didn't get home until 10 PM. I'm tired today (from lack of sleep - I only had half a beer) but it was a fun time.

Hey!

Got some friends in town--recommended Millenium. Can you recommend any other good restaurants? They're down at the Marriot, money no object.

Thanks,

Fud

Masa's is spectacular (they'll probably get three stars from the upcoming Michelin SF guide), but hard to get into on short notice. La Folie, also excellent classic Fronch. Farallon, if they like seafood. Bix is an elegant supper club with an outstanding bar and live music.

Going downscale a bit, Zarzuela for Spanish tapas, although they don't take reservations. Plouf in Belden Alley for mussels (or any of the places in Belden Alley, really).

Izzat enough?
