I wish to pay respect to Caesar Cardini - the 1924 inventor of the Caesar salad. Genius. And also to whomever perfected it by adding grilled chicken.

We've been getting lots of lettuce in our CSA box; four heads of romaine this last week. So I thought I'd try making a Caesar salad from scratch for the first time.

It's surprisingly easy. The dressing is essentially basic mayonnaise, although I added garlic and a couple anchovies in the food processor. It was a faboo way for the two of us to eat an entire head of lettuce. I would have added chicken, but we'd run out. It was still incredibly good.

How do you think shrimp on a Caesar salad would taste? Would the flavors of the shrimp and anchovies conflict with each other?

It would probably work. The anchovy flavor isn't usually that pronounced (in the original, there weren't any - they used Worcestershire sauce)

Yes, but Worcestershire sauce contains anchovy. :)

My favorite way to eat an entire head of lettuce is via Buddy's salad dressing, from Pocatello, ID. Buddy's makes an Italian dressing that has lots of garlicky goodness in it, and their salads are simply chopped lettuce drenched in this dressing. It's wonderful.
