Oh, wow, the first thing I flashed on reading that was that people would dispose of messages by dropping the bit of paper !) into an atomic wastebasket, where it would be vaporized instantly. The things we take for granted in our visions of the future fascinate me.

So, on Trantor the sun's rays were focused to use as incinerators? I didn't remember Asimov writing about that... :)
