A while ago I complained about San Francisco's lack of world-class sushi, at least in my experience. One of the food blogs I read recommended Sebo (Hayes and Octavia). It's somewhat expensive, but as the blog says

Buying cheap sushi is like taking some sick pleasure in wearing cubic zirconium stud earrings.

The wife and I had decent sushi recently, so we won't be taking the time and money for this one soon; but I'll put it on the list of places to try. Maybe around bonus time in February.

Yes. Right down the street from me, in fact. I can totally say good things about Ebisu. Not sure that I'd second the "not too pricy" part of that comment, though.

If you're in the North Bay (South Santa Rosa area), Hana is spectacular. And Ken's a cool, down-to-Earth guy.

There is an oddly fantastic sushi place here in Pleasant Hill (next to a Safeway and Starbucks, no less!) called Matsu Sushi on Contra Costa Blvd. If you guys are ever in town you should try it!

Have to disagree. I think sushi is more like wine: there's a big difference between good and great, but you can get good cheap stuff, which is a whole lot better than none at all. (Also there is bad wine/sushi, both of which are really awful.) A $5 bottle of TJ's Old Moon Zin is worth drinking, and so is an ordinary piece of sushi.

Also: Ebisu.
