The Wall St. Journal mentioned that wristwatch sales were lagging - that the only age range consistently buying them were people over 50. So, a poll:

Depends on where I am....

At work there is a wall clock conveniently located so I use that. At home I use the computer that I am on most of the time...or the tv, or the clock on the stove.

Out and about, I used to wear a watch, but I am alergic to metals, and the buckles eat me alive, so now I use a cell phone. If I had a pcket watch I would likely use that, or maybe a necklace watch, if I could find one I wasnt alergic to.

I like the convenience of a watch, and that would be my preferred method.

Well,

At work we all go by the wall clock--it's a school. And there's bells. And stuff.

But otherwise, all the computers show a time (internet mediated, easily good to less than a second!) and my phone/PDA does too...

But Time IS an Allusion...

A pocket watch or my cell phone.

Do NOT give me that last option if you want a real answer...

For me, I just keep an eye on my environment, if there is a wall clock, or computer clock, or desk clock, I will use those. But I always have my pocket watch, and often my cell phone, so those are backups or for outdoors. Never a wrist watch, though. I broke too many of them over the years, so I just don't bother.

Before I had a cell phone, I just kinda looked and/or asked around to find out the time. I've never really been able to wear a watch. *shrug*

Such Much?

A Wristwatch. Or so I'd like to think.

Since I've been wearing a wrist brace, I can't wear a watch on my left wrist -- and it just doesn't feel right on the right side (Or so I say. There's also the possibility that I'm not coordinated enough with my left hand to manipulate the buckle and strap around the right wrist. The truth probably lies somewhere in-between.).

As long as I'm not wearing a watch, I always have the cell-phone with the clock-function in my shirt pocket.

I'm slowly weaning myself from the brace. I've got to remember to start picking up the watch in the morning, again.

Bonus points for identifying the Quote in the Title.

No fair Googling it.

My answer (cell phone) was a bit arbitrary as it's very contextual. When there's a computer in front of my face (which constitutes a fair chunk of the day), I use the computer time display. At work when not in front of a computer, there are usually wall clocks in view and I'll use those (although they typically provide a +/- 5 minute accuracy). But if I'm out and about and need the time, I'll look at my Treo. The only reason I counted it as "cell phone" rather than "PDA" is that back when I had both as separate items, I'd use the phone rather than the PDA for the time.

a pocket watch

I use a pocket watch. I can't wear a wrist watch. It used to be because I killed them rather quickly. Now it's because my wrists are "delicate".

Ok, so I answered watch because I wear one almost every day BUT in reality, I only look at it if there is no other visible clock in the room (computer, TV, stove, etc) or if I question that other clock's accuracy.

(Second) BUT I almost never check my cell phone for the time although I carry that almost every day too (because it would involve digging it out of the bottom of my purse).

(Third) BUT whenever I go to Disneyland I see numerous watch displays with loads of new styles--Perhaps they're all being bought by people over 50, but I doubt it. And the Mouse is a pretty savvy business man--he does not waste money producing things that don't sell like hotcakes.

1. Looking at the sky;
2. Wall clock etc;
2. Asking passing strangers.

1 is because most of the time it doesnae matter much - I just need to keep track of daylight. 2 is the wall clock in the kitchen, which is mainly useful for noticing that I just missed the best part of The Daily Show. 3 is what I do in town when I'm supposed to be somewhere at a paticular time.

Actually #1, by a large margin, should be "Ask the wife."

Cell/PDA (they're the same thing) or computer when I'm sitting at it.
Car clock when I'm in the car.
Pocket watch when I wanna carry it.

Never had a wristwatch I really liked although I occasionally use one when SCUBA diving. Even there, I usually just use the dive computer.
