We watched Mirrormask last night, thanks to the curvy upstairs neighbor's Netflix subscription. I suppose I should join, at least at the base level. Anyway - I liked the visuals of the movie, but the story felt lacking. Especially when compared to Neil Gaiman's normal characterization. The characters seemed a bit flat to me (I would have liked more delving into the mother-daughter relationship) and the story seemed to jump too much. More viewings might help with that, I suppose, but I probably won't bother.

Roswtr and I felt much the same way. The visuals were wonderful, but the story seemed pretty bland. I'm not sure more viewings would help, but then again I didn't feel particularly motivated for more viewings anyway.

Visually I loved what I saw but otherwise it just kind of left me feeling unimpressed.

It *is* a pretty short story, intended for audiences younger than his usual, after all....

It worked for me :)

Netflix is worth the money. I resisted it for a long time. Another subscription thing, that irritating feeling that I "have" to do something because I paid for it and yet another way to track my habits. A friend shipped me one of those "hook a friend and get a free movie" deals and I thought why not? I could back out after a month, if I didn't like it. I did like and am currently at the "two movies at a time" level. We've been catching up on series ("The Wire" mostly but "MI-5" is in the queue and there are some old Masterpiece Theater series I'd like to test.) and quirky foreign films. Last night was "The Tunnel," a fabulous movie on people trying to get out of East Germany just after the wall went up.
