I'm a big fan of Christopher Guest's work. I thought Best In Show was very funny and A Mighty Wind absolutely skewered folk music brilliantly. So, I was initially looking forward to For Your Consideration, his take on the Oscars and how it affects a film in progress.

I'm glad I watched it via Netflix, 'cause I would have felt cheated in the theater. It just never really went anywhere. The movie may have been too personal to be funny (as Berke Breathed pointed out - and has since lost sight of - you have to have distance to satirize effectively).

There were good bits, such as the ventriloquist weathergirl. Harry Shearer was good as the veteran actor. But a little Fred Willard goes a very long way, and there was a lot of Fred Willard.

It's number 4 in my Netflix queue. Right after "Walk the line", "ShortBus", and "Howls Moving Castle".

Don't get me wrong - it wasn't a complete waste of time. It was worth a rental. But only that.

Before For Your Consideration, I considered that his (by-far) weakest film. Now I think I like it better than the latest one.
