Getting a cup of coffee in the break room just now. A cow-orker is peering at the copier display, which is indicating errors in many different places.

Him: "Holy cow! There are arrows everywhere!"
Me: "What is this, Agincourt?"

Sigh. No one here catches my humorous cultural/historical references. That's what I get for working at a financial firm, I guess.

I hope someday someone there gets one of your references. The satisfaction is far out of proportion to the event, I find. If I'd been there I would have laughed...and then said, "It's a St. Sebastian model copier."

Even better is being used as a reference source. When I was at the Lab for Cognitive Neuroscience at Salk, a post-doc ran out of his office one morning and said to me, "Greek river god, wrestled with Hercules. What was his name?" I said, "Proteus." He said, "Yes! The protean nature of this syndrome..." and ran back into his office and started typing. I felt ten feet tall for the rest of the day.
