Jun. 16th, 2008 08:59 amA&S went reasonably well. The class I taught with
ldyanna went pretty well despite my half-assing it. It was too hot for bread - the dough over-rose and slumped, making a tasty sour loaf but one that was not fluffy or nicely browned. My ginger pie was yummy despite the bottom crust being slightly under-cooked. I guess I'm a little out of practice with the on-site baking, but that's not going to change any time soon.
There were lots of classes I would have liked to take, but many of them conflicted with mine.
Friday night had unexpected excitement when, despite the maintenance crew's assertions to the rangers, the sprinklers went off. People ran to put buckets and such on them for the five minutes it took for the rangers to flip the switch. We had a sprinkler go off about a foot inside our pavilion front door... fortunately we had 10-mil Visquene under our canvas floor. This is waterproofing plastic used in construction (and An Tir); it's 5x thicker than a standard tarp. Our canvas wasn't wet at all. We would have been far worse off if the sprinkler had started a foot outside the pavilion as our front door was open.
The peerages were good.
bonacorsi and I did some court attending. People camped under the comfortable trees, which meant that our "Wrecker" crowbar was extremely useful for getting stakes removed from tree roots.
Tired today. We're going minimalist for next weekend as I'm past the age where camping two weekends in a row is exciting.
