Jul. 4th, 2008 02:43 pmI forgot to mention a slight grump regarding the WALL-E credits. I really liked the evolution in artistic style from Lascaux to Egyptian to Roman. But then why jump to pseudo-18th c. watercolor?
Hello, Bayeux Tapestry followed by da Vinci or other Renaissance?
Yes, I am an over-educated art geek. But come on: those two are in pop culture as well.

Date: 2008-07-05 06:17 pm (UTC)Anyway, I really liked the pointilism and Van Gogh take-offs (I would say oil painting, not water color) and I have a vague memory of something that reminded me of Breugal peasants before that, but yes--I agree, they left out waaaay too much. I really want to watch it again carefully when we get it on DVD for the kids, which we inevitably will...
And speaking of symbolism in the movie, we loved the parallel between Auto and HAL, but thought it fascinating that this is a movie in which technology represents not just the downfall of humanity, but also, at the same time, it's salvation. And we liked the way that those two forces in tension were represented by a retro robot and a futuristic one--they could have done something really cool in the credits with the robot hand holding symbolism and a take off of Michaelangelo's God touching Adam's finger...or maybe that would be to presumptuous...
