One Bourbon, one Scotch, and one beer *

etaine_pommier and J! came over for dinner and drinks. I picked E up from work - she had a rather heavy backpack of fabric for us and didn't want to schlep it along Muni. Quite reasonable.
Except the gobsmacking reason that her backpack was so heavy was not the fabric she delivered to us. It was their birthday present to me: the complete Far Side collection. I was very pleased (of course) and totally surprised. Thanks so much you guys. Mwah!
We had a reservation at Bourbon & Branch, a very nice speakeasy-themed bar here in SF. E&J had been there before, we hadn't. It was rather nice - the reservations meant it wasn't too crowded and loud. We got there slightly early and had a drink in one of the bar rooms hidden behind a bookcase. (Not the library - the Russells Room Cigar Shop.) I'd love to have a house with a wet bar hidden behind a bookcase...
I'm actually not a huge fan of bourbon. The maple notes are generally too sweet for me; I prefer scotch. The bartender suggested a "Blood & Sand", a 1920s cocktail with scotch, orange juice, cherry brandy, and a few other things. It was quite tasty and not too sweet. The wife had a lime & ginger champagne cocktail she liked, and E&J had varied bourbons.
All in all a lovely social evening.
*Actual numbers consumed were four, one, and zero.
