I start work Monday!

I'll be working in the city Treasurer's office. Doing basically what I'm trained to do, which is bond investing. My boss is a former cow-orker, who I get along with well. It's local: I'll be commuting on Muni. Hopefully this job is more stable, although it could always get cut in the next budget downturn...

Obviously as a city employee, the pay is less than I was making before. I have to wear a suit and tie five days a week. Because I was hired after 1/10, I have to pay 2% of my salary into a healthcare fund - and I have to work there for 20 years to get free healthcare after retirement rather than 5 years. The responsibility and scope of what I'll be doing is significantly less than what I was doing before as well. Also, no vacation time for a year.

I'll be commuting on Muni. Also, I'll be a city employee with union-negotiated benefits. For those who knew me twenty years ago... it's a little ironic.
All in all, though, I'm looking forward to getting back to work in general and at this job specifically.

Congratulations! May the job itself make up for the benefits.

So, um, is this anything to do with the fat lady dropping dead?

The fat lady was starting to sing. Everybody else was dropping dead, which usually happens at the end of an opera.

Yay, work! I mean, sure, we'd all like to stay home, read, cook, garden, and watch TV all day, but really? that steady paycheck sort of makes up for the inconvenience of going to a job instead.

Congrats!! I hope it goes well... (And I know this is going to sound silly especially coming from a girl, but I kind of envy the suit-and-tie thing. I think it would be fun to have a dress-up job. :-)

Good for you! I'm glad you'll be able to dread Monday mornings again.

(Ironically, you lost your job when I lost one good friend, and are starting your new one when I've lost another. Keep this job for a long time, OK?)

I'm sure you're already saying this, but about frickin' time! I figured as much from your oh-so-subtle LJ hints, but it is nice to get it locked down.

Congrats, and have fun with the new green commute! BTW: podcasts are the best way to avoid any contact with crazies. Or just sing on the Muni; that will make people give you a huge berth.
