Post-Twelfth Night thoughts
Jan. 4th, 2004 12:16 pm-I had fun. So did my wife. Saw lots of people, usually for five minutes at the most; the event has been compared to a big SCA cocktail party, minus the booze for the most part. People I chatted with that I haven't seen much of lately:
tsgeisel,
loupnoir,
falzalot,
maestrateresa. Also Tony, briefly, but not
punkmom.
-I win the "how the heck did you do that?" contest!
I had a packet of period-style straight pins for my peerage collar in my clothes bag, which I put aside for safekeeping while changing. Then when it came time to wear the collar, I couldn't find the pins! Someone gave me a couple safety pins, but still. Then when I was getting near-nekkid for the play, I found the packet of pins... still in my period shoe where I had put them. Yes, I was walking around all day with pins under one foot and never noticed.
-My wife demo'd her handmade books at the Laurel's Prize Tourney, which 1) is only open to non-Laurels, 2) has no prizes, 3) isn't a tourney. Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln? Anyway, she got to show off her good work to lots of people amid general interest. A Good Thing.
-the play went as well as could be expected. Not trying to snark here; people put forth a lot of effort, the audience seemed to enjoy it, and we got applause. Not a standing o, but we didn't deserve one IMHO. 'Course, I only went to one rehearsal for my walk-on part and had no lines, so the other actors shouldn't take this as criticism. Sadly the video camera malfunctioned, so we have no record.
I enjoyed having the year off and will probably try out for a real role next time. I have heard from various others that they may take a vacation this go-round...
