Film review: The Black Swan
May. 17th, 2009 12:02 pmAnother Olde Tyme Swashbucklin' Movie based on a popular Sabatini novel. Starring Tyrone Power and Maureen O'Hara.
...yawn. The plot was cliched from start to finish - lovable rogue with heart of gold falls in love with noble's daughter who hates him at the start and marries him at the end; effete politicians who dislike the noble pirates at best and collude with foreign enemies at worst; gratuitous use of "naval" terms on land; haphazard looting and brawls over treasure; racial and sexual stereotyping; and much, much, more! It also left some threads hanging that should have been resolved.
Tyrone Power, who was so good in a similar role in Zorro, slept his way through this one. I am very glad it was a rental.
What I'm reading: 2nd try, Fool
