recent rentals
Jul. 28th, 2009 07:47 amI was surprised by how much I liked Charlie Bartlett. Yes, it's sort of a Ferris Bueller-like story although the satire of a prep school boy selling prescription drugs was funny. The actor who played Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek remake was quite good, and was only 19 when he played a 17-year old - how often does that happen? Robert Downey Jr was also excellent as his reluctant foil, playing a near-alcoholic principal.
Last night we watched the recent Tristan & Isolde. They made drastic changes to the story (surprise). The outfits started off roughly correct but took a wide detour halfway through, especially the women's gowns (another surprise). The actor playing Tristan was good eye candy but couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. Thankfully the actress in Isolde's role was much better (as well as being good eye candy). Rufus Sewell got to play a good guy and helped carry the movie in the "King Arthur" role.
I'd actually watch Charlie Bartlett again, unlike the majority of our rentals, and the wife wouldn't mind having T&I as a sewing movie.
What I'm reading: Eric Flint, Slow Train to Arcturus
