Today marks the 150th anniversary of the accession of Norton I, Emperor of the United States and protector of Mexico.

Among his notable accomplishments: abolishing the US Congress for fraud and corruption; calling for a bridge between San Francisco and Oakland; forbidding the use of the name "Frisco"; and breaking up a race riot by commanding them to stop.

Emperor Norton, I salute your memory.
