- Is there anything you think should not be incorporated into the media or art? If so, what and why, and if not, why not?
I have a hard time justifying censorship based on my (or anyone's) beliefs. That said, just because something is labeled "art" does not mean it isn't crap. (See my rant on Rent.)
I choose not to listen to Rush Limbaugh or Al Gore; that doesn't mean I want to stop their ability to bombast and whine in the media.- What would be the perfect gift for you?
Free time?- Now that you're about halfway through your program, are you sorry you didn't start your masters sooner, or do you feel like you're just spinning your wheels waiting to finish?
Yes to both. I definitely should have done this a number of years ago for career reasons; but sadly it feels like the most valuable thing I'm getting (besides the crushing debt load) is the additional line on the resume. This is not a knock on my program, or even on the substantial time and energy I am putting into it. When I was on the beach, I was screened out from a number of jobs at the initial HR level because I didn't have the "MBA" keyword.- What is your view of authority, and what event most affected it?
Philosophically I tend Libertarian -- I don't like being told what to think or believe, or have restrictions on my behavior (that aren't reasonable public safety issues). You don't believe in eating pork or foie gras? You are opposed to abortion? You think your religion mandates women not drive, or that anyone must not drive on a particular day? You find portrayals of your messiah (or any thinking being) blasphemous?
Fine, you abide by those rules. Don't forbid or require me to do so unless I voluntarily share that viewpoint.
I think the world would be a lot better off if more people followed the Golden Rule as espoused by Robert Anton Wilson: "Think for yourself, schmuck!"- What is something that you had to learn that you hated?
Hmm. Accounting. Playing workplace politics.
