My wife and I went to the "Seal-a-bration" at Ano Nuevo today. It's their annual fundraiser. They close the park to the public and ticket-buyers go watch the elephant seals.
Sounds like any other day at Ano Nuevo, you say? True. Except that they cut the group size in half, so you can get closer and stay out longer without bothering the seals.
This is the fourth or fifth time we've gone. It is so cool! The park gets better at this every year - we've never gotten as close as today. Last night's rain also helped; the seals were very active. Saw some mating, some fighting, and missed a birth by ten minutes.
They're even testing out an elephant seal-cam!
Now off to pack, as I have a 7 AM flight tomorrow to Florida for a couple of days. Work conference. Bleagh.
