I got a mailer invitation to Beta Gamma Sigma - "Recognizing the outstanding academic achievements of students enrolled in business programs." They invite the top 20%, which is not exactly exclusive. (Don't get me wrong: I would rather be in the top 20%. I may give them my $70 for the privilege of putting it on my resume.)

However, their explanation of the Greek letters is, well...
"Sigma: Sigma signifies earnestness. Earnestness is enthusiasm measured by acheivement, disciplined by reason..."

And they spell "achievement" correctly later on in the paragraph.

Snicker ... having just been the guest speaker out our version (PTK) of that (probably not the same people), that's pretty funny.

Does it seem worthwhile to you? I hadn't heard of them before this.

If they are an Honors society, then it can't hurt to put it on the resume, and all that. I know that PTK is international, and requires a minimum of a 3.5 GPA (and you have to maintain it) to join -- if you blow it after joining, you are put on probation (not an active member) until ... I don't know much else. In general any kind of Honors Society that shows you were a "good student" looks great on the resume.

I always wonder whether to put my Alpha Zeta membership on resumes. That's an agriculture honors frat; I pledged my fifth year just to see what pledging was like. My university was way casual about it, but one grad school I toured was all "You're an AZ? Nice!"

On the resume, you put memberships in Honors Societies and such under the education, typically. Something like:
   Name of Degree (Year earned)
   School, City/State
    * Member of ...
    * 3.5 GPA (Four Semesters)
and so on ...
