Thanksgiving breakdown
Nov. 29th, 2010 03:29 pmWe had a nice, quiet day - it was just the wife and me, with my dad coming over for dinner since he's local again. Our turkey was 14 pounds so we, um, had plenty. We bought the bird from the place I get my other meats and, while expensive, had huge turkey flavor that the chain store doesn't give you. Brining it in apple juice worked pretty well (nothing was dry). I also made a pecan pie and sage-bread stuffing, along with baked yams and a green salad (for variety).
My dad brought a bottle of dessert wine older than I am: a 1967 Chateau Climens that he bought many years ago for about $6. It's a premier cru Sauternes (like Yquem), but lighter. The bottle might have been a bit past prime but it was still very nice.
All in all, a good day.
