Bah. Its an old theme in Oriental wrapping paper. They make a big deal about how 'Samurai' means servant. Well, so does 'Knight'. The rest is straight out of 19th C. "Muscular Christianity'.
Of course it could have been a book examining the Christian daimyos and their retainers that existed in southern Japan in the 16th Century.
As to the cover, it was very likely designed to evoke the obvious implication. It gets people talking about it and Honi soit qui mal y pense.
