Yesterday I got an e-mail from an undergrad classmate - a different classmate is running for governor and she's trying to drum up donors for his Bay Area fundraiser.

However, he's running for governor of Montana.
I don't appreciate California being used as a fly-by political ATM. Whether I support or oppose the candidate is irrelevant.

Oh yeah, that would totally annoy me, too. I'd wish him luck but that's about it.

It is annoying when people who haven't spoken to you in years show up with a hand out, but if I lived in place where people who represented my view had _no_ chance of getting elected, I might spend my political dollars outside my district. However, it would be more sensible to try to influence a federal House of Representatives race in a close election. Is this potential governor of Montanabanana someone who would never get elected in the bay area?

He's a Democrat, so I'm sure he could be elected here. He's hitting the Bay Area up for cash because it has wealthy people, not because there's a shortage of his party in his state. That's what I object to.
