Lots of fun. Lots of food. Lots of chattage.

Surprisingly, the highway improvement that's taken five years seemed to help. We weren't bogged down in Santa Rosa either way. We left at 9 AM, hit the Hamburger Ranch for lunch (mmm, brisket and pulled chicken) and checked into the motel in Brookings around 6 PM. When everyone arrived we walked down to a new brewpub for a decent burger and beer.

We got to site a bit before it opened and set up leisurely. I brought a lot of recipes to try, but over the weekend I wasn't feeling as inspired. So I bagged the playdate ones and focused mainly on dinners and vacationing. While the weather was much warmer than we anticipated (high 80s?) I managed to avoid a sunburn or any hangovers. Go Team Moderation!

Booze: I brought a decent 3 liter box of red wine to both cook with and drink at dinner. I thought the equivalent of four bottles would be more than enough. Somehow, I ran out on Friday... I blame the tuna in daube. Yeah, that's it. The verjus smashes were appreciated in the hot weather. (1 oz gin, 1 oz verjus, 3/4 oz lemon juice, dash honey, shake over ice, top off with fizz water.)

Fud report: I will gradually post Resolution Recipes. Although I'll have to redo all of them, because field conditions don't generally lend themselves to reproduceable measurements. The tuna in daube was a big hit; several people told me it was the best dish they had that evening. The lamb redo with [livejournal.com profile] ornerie was a good joint effort. (See what I did there, as [livejournal.com profile] desperance says?) She floated the idea of doing a redacted Casteau recipe pamphlet. I've got about ten already done on the website and have been working on more in preparation for next year, so I'd happily go along with it if it happens. I also got to meet Countess E., who I knew under her mundane name as one of the co-translators in the Casteau effort. Neat lady who I would have liked to chat more with.

We didn't get offsite until noon on Sunday, but made good time south. We stopped at the Hamburger Ranch again. It's the first time we've ever been there for dinner, so we tried their barbecued back ribs (excellent). We also chatted with the owner, who was manning the barbecue, and let him know that we often make a point of stopping by on our way through the area. He seemed pleased. Then home around 9:30-10 PM to a very upset cat, and unpacking and cleaning that continues through today.

I'm sorry Galen was so upset, but I'm trying not to take it personally. (My first visit, he peered down the stairs at me with a look of horror, and promptly vanished; next time, no sign of him at all. Empty bowls were reassuring, though...)

Oh dear. I'm so sorry. Clearly the solution is to have you over more for drinks and dinner.

Heh. Works for me. I shall sneak my way into his fuzzy heart...

ha! I knew I met you at the event! I am the Canadian time share apprentice that stopped by when you were prepping the lamb! I had the 2 year old for a bit! Well met!
