I had non-bread-fail last night for the first time in, oh, five or six attempts. I have narrowed down the elements - it's either the flour or the bowl. It's an older clay bowl, so it could be that soap or salt or something has worked its way into the innards and poisons the starter. Flour would normally be more likely, but it's King Arthur which is usually reliable.
Dunno. But it was nice having good sourdough toast for brunch with proscuitto squash/basil sauce omelettes.
In other news, I have skirt steak marinating in a spicy garlic rub to be grilled for dinner with fresh corn. And once I'm done wasting time on teh intarwebz, I will try to start the 6-month semi-quick proscuitto.
