That is a fact I didn't learn till I was nearly 40, when I tried typing the other word, got something close enough for a spell checker to suggest the one you typed, accepted it, since it looked reasonable to me, and then a friend said pretty much the same thing when he read the resultant paragraph, at which point I looked up both words...

Note: I am not certain I have ever heard either word spoken, but have only seen them in writing. I am one of those people who read word-shape and never sounds out the words, which makes it easy for me to think a word is spelled correctly if it is the correct length and has the correct letters at the beginning, end, and any protrusions in about the right place in the middle, which that one does...

Calvary/cavalry is far too common. Calgary/cavalry amuses me, but I've never seen it in writing.

Calgary/Calvary is quite common, almost commonplace, wherever the ignorant gather to assert the rightness of their religion. Which happens a lot, I find.

You can almost always throw the said ignorant for a loop if you use the term Golgotha instead.
