Waste of a perfectly good lie
Aug. 4th, 2003 09:03 amI am an honest individual who would never stoop to taking advantage of a gullible individual. That's why this missed opportunity saddens me.
Friday, about 200 of us at work were hit with a virus purporting to be from admin@ our company with an urgent message about our logins. Clicking on it, as my boss did, brought up an empty popup. Being the suspicious type I reported it to our I/T people.
I chatted with them in the hallways a short while later and I found out it wouldn't affect us, because we don't have authority to change our programs. So no big deal, although if an I/T person had opened it up much havoc would result.
I persuaded the I/T guy to tell my boss that his computer was hopelessly fragged, all his data would be irrevocably lost, cats and dogs living together, etc.
But he wimped out. (sigh)

Spent this weekend doing lots of house fu (instead of going to Golden Stag auditions):
I sanded down the front doors, Dawn put on another coat of paint, the upstairs neighbors hacked back ivy and chopped up a planter bed in preparation for planting flax. Tiring but lots done. Ah, the joys of homeownership.
Joys of homeownership?

P.S.: And welcome to the ranks of the Landed Poor. ;->
Landed Poor
Date: 2003-08-04 05:00 pm (UTC)We already owned a townhouse in Mtn. View, which we sold for this place. Our current house is a 1910 Edwardian, two-unit TIC (tenancy in common). Basically group ownership until we can jump through the paperwork hoops to convert into a two-unit condo association.

Re: Landed Poor
Date: 2003-08-05 01:15 pm (UTC)A tenancy-in-common is group ownership: we currently own 48.5% of the entire building. Going condo will separate the units, so that we own our flat and the neighbors own theirs, with an association responsible for the common area (garage and back yard).
Why does this matter? In a TIC, since we're all owners, if the neighbors default on their mortgage we could be evicted even though we're paid up on ours -- it's not differentiated. If we wanted to sell, we'd have to find someone willing to buy our share of the TIC. But with a condo, it's all separate so it's easier to sell. It should give us a small bonus to the value when we convert to a condominium.
