Party time!

Friday the wife and I drove over to Berkeley for her senior art show. No, that doesn't mean a series of "Depends" on the wall!

About a dozen seniors from the printing department had works up. The wife, who was exhibiting a book, put it in an enclosed case - discretion being the better part of valor, when there is food and beer about.

Oh yeah - beer. The other seniors being 21-22, they bought two kegs. Of Pabst. Mmmmm. We had to chip in though, so I had a couple of beers anyway. Doesn't make me miss that era of my life.

The show was good. Many different printed works - etchings, handmade paper, lithographs, and more that I don't know the names of. It started slow; but by the time we left at 8:30, there was a good crowd. College students + free beer = attendance.

(The wife will have a solo show in October, I think it is. I'll publicize it closer to the actual date.)

The funniest moment: Berkeley's finest showing up across the street on a call. The dozen or so of us who were there were standing outside; all the 20-somethings with beer immediately faded into the building. I stayed outside, 'cause, well, yeah I was violating the open container law, but they weren't heading our direction and I'm not paranoid about that sort of thing. Anymore.

Then last night drove to [livejournal.com profile] farmount's party. Good time, even if it was a long way to drive for a couple of hours of hanging out. But since I feel somewhat isolated here in S.F. it was worthwhile. Also met some LJ-names I had read but not seen in person - [livejournal.com profile] selkiediver, [livejournal.com profile] firehair28, and some others whom I'm not remembering right now.

I first met you when you were 21 or 22, so you'll always be that age to me. :-)

And if I shaved the goatee, I'd still look that age!

You know, that's not such a bad thing. As time goes by people will start wondering where the portrait is stored ...

Jeepers, I missed you at farmount's party. I *thought* I heard your voice as I arrived -- just as wingedcorset told me I had to move my car.

Too bad.

Pabst is the new, trendy beer, because it's cheap and better than it has any right to be. Which, doesn't make it great, but does make it drinkable.

I think it makes a mighty fine 3rd beer. Well, if you haven't had much to eat, anyway...

(Geezer voice) Back in my college days, we used to drink Keystone. And Lucky Lager, with the rebus on the cap.
Kids these days, no respect for history. (/Geezer voice)

[livejournal.com profile] madbaker, if you're a geezer, I've been dead for 10 years. Trendy beer of 1974: Heineken. Actual beer of 1974: Coors, because it was about the same price as Bud, but supposedly better. Redeeming Beer Moment, 1978: discovering Guinness, and dark beers in general.

Ah, then I discovered Guinness before you did! I started drinking it in 1970.

Apparently my mother occasionally used my grandmother's folk wisdom when I was teething: drink a bottle of Guinness and then nurse. Calms both mom and kid right down.

Speaking of the party...

You'd mentioned that you'd unfriended me, and I'd forgotten to ask[*] if there'd been a Message involved in that. At least I know that you're not one of the two people in recent months who has (Really! Two!) unfriended me by accident!

Good to see you again. I figured out why I had trouble physically recognizing you: my mental image of you is bespectacled; real-world-you wasn't.

Z

P.S.: * -- The fact that it is, as always, your decision notwithstanding.

Nope, no message - just wasn't reading enough of your posts to continue getting them on the friends filter.

And since I don't, as a rule, lock posts - you're not missing many of mine.

Oh, and I stopped being bespectacled a couple of years ago. Got my corneas burned and am very happy with the result. (I can read the bedside clock! Wowee!)
