Not a recap
Feb. 17th, 2015 07:24 amThe weekend was good. Tiring, but good.
This was the second time we've hosted and we used the same place - a girl scout camp in the midst of hills and forest and away from traffic and the world. It went fairly well*, although due to a combination of things including Valentine's Day the turnout was lower than we'd have liked. Or probably needed, although I have not seen the budget. (That's not my job. Yet.)
The wife and I were still recovering from colds; I didn't need drugs anymore, but my stamina wasn't up to par. I managed to avoid taking a midday nap. While that would have helped me immensely, it would have meant missing taking any classes, and I would have been grumpy about that. There were too many classes I would have liked to take but I only managed one. The class I taught was how to chop, stuff, smoke, and cure for two months a 16th century recipe sausage - all in one hour. Yes, I did the Julia Child thing. The previously-cured sausages weren't quite ready but were certainly edible. I think it went fine.
The game show I emceed Saturday evening was a bit slow to start, but all in all was a success as far as I could tell. There were a couple of operator-error foobs (says the operator) and a couple of other crowd-type foobs, but those were really unavoidable. Having a crowd game seems to be a good way to transition from dinner to party.
I stayed up for a bit in the evening party, but I really wasn't feeling like getting my drink on, so both the wife and I went to bed relatively early. Sunday I participated in the roundtables, we helped clean for a while, then left. When we got home we unpacked the cooler and left everything else in the car so we could nap. Eventually we unpacked but it took a while to get ert.
There was a cheese crawl Monday, but we stayed home and napped instead. That was the right decision for our health.
And now, back to the work grind.
* There was organization fu. We'll leave it at that.
