It is hard to get rid of books that I once liked (and in some cases, have gotten personalized/signed by the author). But if I haven't read them in the last five years and don't really think I'm going to reread them, why am I holding on to them?

That's a question that is harder to follow through upon than it is to answer.

Because your mental health is better knowing that they are there, just in case?

(I saved many books for years for that elusive "if we have kids, they can use them for school projects" day. Lo and behold, we now have kid! My tight-fisted book-keeping practices are justified.)

It's more to do with letting go and acknowledging that my taste has changed in some cases. In others, it's that an author whose other books I have liked just didn't do it for me in later ones. In the case of the personalized ones... well, it was a connection on my end even if the author wouldn't remember me three minutes later.
