The boss is an adjunct professor at USF, and drives in from Sacramento twice a week to teach some business classes.* This means that he's in the office more regularly. Yesterday, he announced that we were going to have regular go-out-to-lunch Wednesdays. Which doesn't mean fancy dining; it's finding a local sandwich place. That's fine by me.

I came into work today to find a card from him, thanking me for being part of the team for the last five years. Especially the previous few when we struggled. It also contained a gift card to a local steakhouse. Not a huge one, but enough that the wife and I can meet for a drink and a date some evening. It was a nice thought.

* Personally, I can't imagine the salary pays for the gas let alone the time, but whatever. The fact that I personally would make a very bad professor - and hate it - may factor into this assessment.

I can tell you from experience that being an adjunct (at least in Oregon) doesn't come close to paying for the time. It's about working with the students, and it looks good on a resume. :)
