This week's Resolution Recipe: The New-Fangled.
2 oz rye
3/4 oz falernum
4 dashes orange bitters
Mix all in a rocks glass with ice. Garnish with orange peel if desired.
What worked: An old-fashioned traditionally has sugar stirred in or, more modernly, simple syrup. Since falernum is a sweet syrup that we quite like as a sugar substitute in original daiquiris, I thought I'd try it here. It was pretty good. It's like a Corn & Oil with spicy rye whiskey instead of dark rum.
What didn't: I was pretty happy with it.
Will I make it again? Probably.
