I stole [livejournal.com profile] farmount's joke for my header at work:
"What did you do to the cat, dear? It looks half dead." -Mrs. Schrodinger

And I got the following message from someone I occasionally deal with:
"excuse my ignorance, but who is Mrs. Schrodinger?"

...

I got the same sort of non-appreciation awhile back when I used the header
"Loki, Eris, and Coyote walk into a bar, and the bartender says 'Order, please.'"

I stopped trying to tell jokes at work a long time ago. It just wasn't worth the annoyance at how ignorant of literature and mythology and science my cow-workers were (and I know lots of folk who could tell plenty of jokes that would go right over my head, and am okay with it ...). (I love the second one, btw ...)

Yes, the second one is one of my favorites, too. I try not to tell jokes at work anymore -- my sigline has remained the somewhat harmless "Blessed are the easily amused, for they shall be," for two years now.

I find it's a frequent hazard of being a liberal-arts major in the financial field. That, and having a wide variety of interests (beyond golf).

Heh. Yeah, I am sure that has a lot to do with it, but it's not just the financial field, trust me. <g>
