I stole farmount's joke for my header at work:
"What did you do to the cat, dear? It looks half dead." -Mrs. Schrodinger

And I got the following message from someone I occasionally deal with:
"excuse my ignorance, but who is Mrs. Schrodinger?"

...

I got the same sort of non-appreciation awhile back when I used the header
"Loki, Eris, and Coyote walk into a bar, and the bartender says 'Order, please.'"

I like that Coyote one! Not sure if I have a soft spot for Coyote because he's a dog, or because of the trickster aspect.

I also like this one, which can be appreciated by the over-educated (even folks like me who don't have any ancient languages; you pick up a few things anyway):

A Centurian walks into a bar. "I'd like a martinus, please."
Bartender: "Do you mean a martini?"
Centurion: "If I'd wanted two of them, I'd've asked for two."
